My Leather Handbag Weighs a Ton
(Winnipeg MB Canada)
I have handbags in colours to go with my wardrobe colour schems. However I cant seem to figure out just what to take with me when I leave for business or pleasure outings.
Are there guidelines here? I know life style dictates what this is all about.
Am 76 years old and retired.
I do not want any publicity. Just your response
You are so right, Lisa; it is all about lifestyle and personal choice.
I have had to pare down, because of severe arthritis in my neck and shoulders. Gone are the days when my handbag included everything from a corkscrew and can opening to folding umbrella and wallet!
Essentials would seem to be identification, one credit card, and cash.
Medications you have to take while away from home are another must.
I use both prescription sunglasses and indoor bifocal, so I need the extra pair in my bag with its case. Some people avoid this with contact lenses or lenses that darken in bright light.
Some women have a makeup case that may include Q-tips and an emory board and the like. I stick to lipstick and the emory board.
Others like to carry toothbrush, mini-toothpaste, and/or mouthwash.
My Kindle consolidates all those books I used to carry around.
A tiny notebook and pens wrap it up for me.
I solved the umbrella problem by having three cheap ones, for home, car, and campus. I just have to remember to put each back where it belongs for future use.
I can now fit everything into a well-designed mini-bag, probably about 8" long, but 5-6" deep, and 3-4" in expanding width.
I know of no principles to guide you in the choices you make. Good luck!
