Norm Thompson clothing looked so good in the pictures, I could hardly wait for my package to arrive.
I especially love a sharp jacket which can do so much to create a focal point for an outfit.
Just because I had a disappointing experience does not mean that you will, too.
I ended Fashion After 50's affiliation with this merchant, however, because I want to trust you will have a good experience.
Look, I know that evaluating any business on the basis of one episode is the hasty generalization reasoning fallacy.
Goodness, I teach critical thinking!
The reasons for eliminating this merchant from the affiliate associations was that the quality of the products was not consistent with cost, clothing arrived with unwearable wrinkles, and a credit card purchase dispute was initiated after no refund had been made three weeks after the return had been received back at the mail center.
I ordered four products from Norm Thompson clothing.
The poplin pants were good quality but did not fit. The fabric was heavy and high quality. The construction appeared good, with no hanging threads or lose buttons.
However, the rise and width of the waistband were not appropriate for my figure.
That's not something that can be fixed by ordering a different size.
I also ordered the sandwashed silk pant and matching shirt and a batik print rayon jacket. These would have formed a nice suit for work. The pant and shirt are washable, which would have been a plus.
The quality of the silk was not heavy enough for the price. My comparison is four WinterSilks pants I have been wearing several days a week for the past few years. These were less expensive than the Norm Thompson garments.
I also have bought lined silk and silk-blend slacks for the same price off the racks at local stores.
The garments were shipped in a packing bag, not a box. The silk items were so heavily wrinkled, costly professional steam cleaning and pressing would have been needed before I could wear them.
The rayon jacket featured a batik print that was stunning in places.
I am a fabric-maniac, and I know that the beauty of this hand-printed process is that the fabric colors are soft and uneven.
However, the print of the rayon jacket appeared to have bled out from rich purple to unsightly prison gray in large patches.
The gold hand-painted all-over trim was missing from most of the back of the jacket, which was were the gray splotchy areas of fabric were located. This made it look as if the manufacturer tried to hide poor quality while catching the buyer’s eye with the nice jacket front.
I returned the Norm Thompson clothing promptly using the retailer’s shipping sticker. I wish now that I paid for shipping myself so that I could access the tracking information.
Three weeks later, Norm Thompson had not made a refund. One email I received was filled with typographical errors. I also received an email about a return meant for another customer, who does not have a similar name.
A few days after notifying Norm Thompson clothing that I was disputing the charge via my credit card company, I received a refund for the purchase and return shipping. The initial shipping and handling fee of $19.99 was not returned.
This is NT policy, and that's what I agreed to when I ordered. So it cost me 20 bucks for the privilege of trying on Norm Thompson clothing in the comfort of my home.
None of us have any right to cry foul, however, when a company simply stands by its policies. Shipping is expensive.
I have also received an apology from a company officer. This says a lot about the company's interest in its customers.
The best I can say is do your research whenever you are dealing with an online company. Be prepared if things go wrong, and do your best not to let it upset your composure.
